Morality Play

Live and Learn, that’s the ideal ----->

Forward motion  (float downstream) towards

Some approximation of perfection or completeness/

Sun-gilt horizon, blue hills and hazy promise,

Never making the same mistake twice.

REALITY

of course, is quite different.

We get caught in eddies and whirled

around and around,

in tightly looping segments of time

erring and compounding our erring

so that we age without growing,

which, when you think about it,

is the very definition of adulthood.

“each man has his own characteristic experience”

(have you heard this before?)

and is bought back to it,

as a puppy is bought back to his own puddle of piss,

to have his nose rubbed in it.
